I study how the interplay of abiotic stressors and biotic factors affects the performance and fitness of plants at the individual, population and community level.
My research focuses on the effects of drought on the outcome of intra- and inter-specific interactions, asking whether drought stress mediates the outcome of plant-plant and plant-soil biota interactions among conspecifics (kin vs. non-kin), among native and range-expanding species, and how this may reshape plant communities. Another line of inquiry is whether macro- and micro-plastic contamination in soil affects soil ability to retain water and consequently plant performance and fitness. The common denominator among these different projects is my interest to understand how multiple abiotic stressors shape species adaptations and community composition in a changing world. |
